30-Oct: PP 41-50

  1. pg 45 we were created to bear God's image - in both outward resemblance and in character...

Found it really interesting point that God felt Sabbath rest to be so important to us that he did create it while Adam and Eve were in Paradise. pg 48

pg 49 shared several ideas on what promotes happiness: obedience, perfect and perpetual was the condition of eternal happiness...True happiness is found, not in the indulgence of pride and luxury, but in communion with God...if men would give less attention to the artificial, and would cultivate greater simplicity, they would come far nearer to answering the purpose of God in their creation.

True joy of life is found only by the working men and woman...

  2. Jenn, I liked that quote on pg 45 too... and felt that that is what we are to aim to, the pre-fall state where God's character is inside and shines out.

pg 46 - "God celebrated the first marriage."
Important to note that God created marriage.

pg 48 - "At the very beginning of man's existence a check was placed upon the desire for self-indulgence, the fatal passion that lay at the foundation of Satan's fall."
Hmmmm, do we all need to look at our indulgences? ;-)

  3. So thinking about the true joy is in work thing, I wonder how retirement fits into Gods plan?

So should I go ahead and delete the button for the WOW group. I know I haven't checked it for a while.

  4. yeah you can delete the WOW group for the Bible reading. We can only have 500 posts with this blog site, so thought since we've already used 365+ then we should start fresh with the Conflict Series.

I think with retirement that we always should be doing something whether it's work we get paid for or work we volunteer. There is evidence that those in their retirement years who led a more active life tend to live longer and happier lives. The work Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden sounded more like they tended to the garden. They stayed active...they just didn't lay around all day being couch potatoes. Because of sin, our work is much different today than what Adam and Eve had in the Garden.

  5. About the working ... even in retiring there is a verse that talks about all work. Eccl. 3:13 "And also that every man should ear and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God."

Work is a gift at any age and can let you eat and drink in joy.
